BVL Veteran Spotlight: Betty Stanton

In honor of BVL Month, we're highlighting a few honorable veterans who are special to Spare Time Texas. Betty Stanton is certainly that and much more.

Betty volunteered and joined the United States Navy in 1989. She developed many skills including project management and data analytics which would help her greatly as she eventually served in a number of stations, including the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, DC. Her primary goal was to be of public service while improving herself. During her years of service, she worked on a number of special assignments including the Casualty Coordination Center and Family Information Support Hotline during the Gulf War.

When speaking about some of the difficulties of entering into military service, Betty says that the separation from her children during deployment was one of the hardest things to deal with. However, the forever friendships that were made have been a highlight of her service.

Throughout her time in the Navy, Betty spent time in a number of locations including Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM, the Naval Air Station in Miramar, and the USS Inchon (MCS-12).

"You can achieve and accomplish more than you ever imagined when you are put to the test," Betty states when asked about some of the most important lessons she took away from her service. “Honor, Courage, and Commitment — coupled with work ethic — drives success."

Betty is a beloved member of our Bowling Leagues at our Pflugerville location. If you spot her during one of your visits, make sure you say hi and thank her for her service!
